What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) ?

Platelet Rich Plasma, also known as PRP unlocks your body’s potential for renewal. It is the body’s own growth factors extracted from the blood, which normally are attached to platelets and suspended in plasma, and then re-introduced at the area of injury needing regeneration.

PRP has been used in sports medicine, orthopedics, and wound care for decades but is not covered by insurance and thus underused in the community. Professionals in the regenerative medicine fields have used it successfully for healing any injured tissue, skin, bones, joints, and even for hair growth. Given this is your own product, there is zero chance for any reactions.

What to expect during PRP Treatment ?

A small blood sample is collected in office and centrifuged to remove the red blood cells and white blood cells, leaving behind concentrated plasma with platelets. This golden fluid contains all the growth factors and platelets, which are then injected into the target area. These stimulate proteins that boost cell repair, anti-inflammatory pathways and collagen production, accelerating your body’s natural healing process.

Local anesthesia, topically applied or injected in the area of treatment is done for comfort prior to the PRP injections. Avoid any cosmetics on the treatment areas before the procedure and for at least 24 hours after the procedure. Also stay well hydrated before and after the procedure to optimize the plasma quality and effect.

Aftercare depends on the area being treated and the nature of the injury, which is explained in detail during the visit for optimizing results.

How many sessions OF PRP DO I NEED ?

Ideal number of treatments greatly depends on the treatment area and the goal desired, along with factors specific to the patient.

The following are general recommended protocol but your provider will adjust this per patient.

Scalp (Hair rejuvenation) – once a month for 3-6 sessions
Face (Vampire Facial) – once a month for 3 sessions
Scars (PRP scar removal) – once a month for 6 sessions minimum with microneedling
Wounds – Once a month until complete wound healing
Joints (for pain management and cartilage regeneration) – Once a month for 3 sessions minimum
Sexual Health – Gent-shot or Fem-shot – Once a month for 3 sessions minimum

Maintenance for Aesthetic procedures is usually 1-2 sessions a year, but varies greatly based on other procedures/treatments done.

Is PRP the right TREATMENT FOR ME?

PRP used for medical and aesthetic procedures is safe for most individuals between the ages of 18-80. Parental Consent required for patients under 18.

There are very few contraindications, however, patients with the following conditions are not great candidates:

1) Acute and Chronic Infections

2) Auto-immune disorders & Skin diseases (i.e. SLE, porphyria, etc.)

3) Patients with platelet disorders, hormonal imbalance and Chronic Liver Pathology are not ideal for PRP treatments.

4) Patients that need to be aspirin, and Systemic use of corticosteroids within two weeks of the procedure.

5) Older patients of age 50+ or with other active medical conditions may not be optimal candidates primarily due to decreased amounts of growth factors in the bloodstream.
